Happening Now

Fall 2025 - winter 2026:

“The World of Ancient israel”

As you can imagine, “the World of Biblical Israel” is very different from the world in which we live today. With the help of a DVD featuring Professor Cynthia Chapman of Oberlin College in Ohio, we will discover new things about the historical, cultural, economic, geographic, and religious settings of these familiar texts and the people we meet in them. We will not hear these familiar stories the same way again! .

Meeting Schedule: Mondays 10:30am-Noon, in the Gathering Space.

Sunday Morning: First Sunday Forum

The First Sunday Forum is held on the first Sunday of each month from October to May at 10:30 a.m. This forum brings in a variety of speakers from local organizations to share insights and updates on important community issues. Past speakers have represented groups such as St. Clare’s Mobile Medical Mission, Mississippi Valley Conservancy, and The Parenting Place, enriching participants' understanding of social justice and local initiatives.

Adult Faith Formation may take the form of a Book Group that meets on Sunday mornings after worship or at another time. Recently we have read books by Kate Bowler (Everything Happens for a Reason And Other Lies I've Loved) and Rachel Held Evans (Searching for Sunday). The Wednesday Morning Bible Study meets at 10:30 a.m. and offers adults a chance to deepen their knowledge of Scripture through discussion and reflection. In addition to discussing books of the Bible, this group has read books about the Bible or biblical topics (Amy-Jill Levine's Short Stories by Jesus), Luther’s Small Catechism, ELCA Social Teaching Statements, and learned about such contemporary issues as the environment and Care for Creation. All of these offerings encourage participants to explore God's Word and its relevance to their daily lives while fostering a strong sense of community and support among members.

WELCA Circles (Bible Study & Fellowship)

The Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (WELCA) Circles at Our Redeemer provide opportunities for women to gather for Bible study and fellowship. The Naomi Circle meets on the third Thursday at 1:30 p.m., and the Mary Circle meets on the fourth Monday at 1:30 p.m. These circles offer a space for spiritual growth, mutual support, and connection with other women in the congregation.
